The “Read from Here” and “Quick Navigation” keys do not work when reading Word 2010 “Protected View” documents.

Applies to:

  • SuperNova Access Suite
  • SuperNova Reader Magnifier
  • SuperNova Screen Reader

Description:

When starting a “Read from Here” in a Microsoft Word 2010 document that is being opened in “Protected View”, speech announces “Reading finished” and does not read any of the text within the document. Additionally, pressing any of the Quick Navigation keys does nothing.

Solution/workaround:

If you are experiencing this problem then disabling Protected View should allow Read from Here to work correctly.

To do this:

1. Press ALT + F. The "File" menu opens.

2. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Options" and press ENTER. The "Word Options" dialog box opens.

3. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Trust Center Settings" and press ENTER. The "Trust Center Settings" dialog box opens.

4. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Protected View"

5. Yse the TAB key to move to each of the following checkboxes. Press SPACEBAR on each one. This will unselect each checkbox:

  • Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet
  • Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe locations
  • Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments

6. Tab to the "OK" button and press SPACEBAR. This will confirm the changes and close the "Trust Center Settings" dialog box.

7. Tab to the "OK" button and press SPACEBAR. This will confirm the changes and close the "Word Options" dialog box.

Only perform the above changes if you have up-to-date antivirus software installed and running.
