Alternative methods for reading problematic HTML emails in Outlook 2007

Applies to:

  • Outlook 2007
  • SuperNova Access Suite
  • SuperNova Screen Reader
  • Dolphin Pen

Description:

Some HTML emails such as newsletters and marketing messages are difficult to navigate using Outlook’s built in cursor, as it fails to move around the email in a logical manner, and often gets stuck and will not move to text within the message.

Solution/workaround:

To work around this issue, if you are having trouble reading a particular HTML email, you can view the email in your web browser instead. This means that the Dolphin Cursor can be used to successfully read the message.

To do this:

1. Open the email you are having problem with.
2. Press H. This opens the "Message" tab of the Ribbon.
3. Press X. This opens the "Other Actions" drop down button.
4. Press V. This activates the "View in browser" item.
The email will then open in your default web browser.

Alternatively, you can also choose to open all messages in Plain Text.

To do this:

1. From the Outlook Inbox, press s ALT + T. The "Tools" menu open.
2. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Trust Centre" and press ENTER. The "Trust Centre" dialog box opens.
3. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Email Security".
4. TAB to the "Read all standard mail in plain text"
5. Press SPACEBAR. This selects the checkbox.
6. TAB to the "OK" button and press SPACEBAR. This confirms your changes and closes the dialog box.
7. Restart Outlook for the changes to take effect.
