Applies to:
- Dolphin Guide
- Guide HandsFree
Description:
This article describes the configuration steps required to get Skype working seamlessly with Dolphin Guide.
Solution/workaround:
Below are the settings required to get Skype working within Dolphin Guide. If after following these steps you still encounter problems, please contact Dolphin Product Support. Due to some of these steps requiring things to be done in windows, outside of Guide, some assistance may be required.
Download the latest version of Skype
Please make sure you have the latest version of Skype. You can download Skype from the following website, free of charge:
Download Skype
When you open Skype for the first time you can either login (if you already have a user account) OR setup a Skype account. Choose your username and password and create an account.
Once Skype is installed in Windows, some settings need to be adjusted.
Set up Skype for best use
You now need to make the following changes in Skype.
On the sign in window select "Sign me in when Skype starts" (in the lower left hand corner). This should cause Skype to remember your login details.
You must tell Skype to not start automatically when Windows starts. To do this:
1. Press ALT + T. The "Tools" menu opens.
2. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Options" and press ENTER. The "Skype Options" dialog box opens.
3. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select the "General Settings" tab.
4. Press TAB to move to the "Start Skype when I start windows" checkbox. Press SPACEBAR to unselect the checkbox if currently selected.
5. TAB to the "Save" button and press ENTER. Your settings are now saved.

You should tell Skype to only allow calls from people in your contact's list. To do this:
1. Press ALT + T. The "Tools" menu opens.
2. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Options" and press ENTER. The "Skype Options" dialog box opens.
3. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select the "Call Settings" item under the "Chat" tab.
4. Press TAB to move to the "Allow anyone to call me" radio and use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select the "Only allow people in my contacts list to call me" radio.
5. TAB to the "Save" button and press ENTER. Your settings are now saved.

You should turn off notifications and popups in Skype. To do this:
1. Press ALT + T. The "Tools" menu opens.
2. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Options" and press ENTER. The "Skype Options" dialog box opens.
3. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select the "Notification Settings" item under the "Notifications" tab.
4. Press TAB to move to each of the checkboxes in this tab, pressing SPACEBAR on any that are selected to unselect all of the checkboxes.
5. TAB to the "Save" button and press ENTER. Your settings are now saved.

Turn Skype On in Guide
You now need to turn on Skype from within Guide. To do this:
1. Ensure Skype is currently running in Windows.
2. Press 9. The "More Options" menu opens.
3. Press 9. The "Guide Extras" menu opens.
4. Press 5. The "Skype" menu opens.
5. Press 8. Skype is now turned on in Guide.

Allow Guide to be used by Skype
Skype needs your permission to allow other programs, including Guide, to interact with Skype. You need to allow access to Guide from within Skype in Windows, so this step will need to be done outside of Guide. If this step is not performed, Guide will report that Skype is not running, even though it is!
1. Exit Guide and return to the Windows Desktop, or minimise Guide if it is not set to take over the Windows Desktop.
2. Skype will be requesting permission with the message "Guide.exe wants to use Skype". Press the "Allow Access" button. Guide now has permission to use Skype.
