Configuring Windows for use with BBC Listen Again in Guide

Applies to:

  • iplayer bbc listen again radio
  • Dolphin Guide
  • Guide HandsFree

Description:

Setting up your PC to use the Listen Again feature in Guide

Solution/workaround:

For the Listen Again feature to work correctly in Guide the following programs are required to be installed on the PC:

  • Internet Explorer 8/9
  • Adobe Flash Player 11

If these programs have been installed and the Radio Shows still aren't playing in Guide you can follow these steps in Windows to resolve the issue:

  1. Open Internet Explorer in Windows and visit the BBC iPlayer website and try to play a video: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
If the video plays correctly skip to step 3.
  2. If the video did not play then it is likely your Flash player version is too old. To update the Flash player on your PC visit get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and follow the instructions there to download and install the latest version of Flash.
  3. Now check your Internet Explorer add-ons (including toolbars). Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options, this will open a new window with several tabs across the top. If you open the 'Programs' tab an option within this tab will be "Manage Add-ons" - click this.

Once the "Manage add-ons" window is open it will display a list of all the add-ons you have for Internet Explorer. You can disable all the add-ons except Adobe products or anything else referencing 'Flash'. To do this click on the add-on name and click the 'disable' button on the bottom right.

When this is complete, the Listen Again feature should work in Guide.
