Problems reading PDF documents in Adobe Reader 10 on Windows XP using Dolphin SaySo

Applies to:

  • SaySo

Description:

It has been reported that SaySo experiences difficulties reading PDF documents in Adobe Reader 10 on XP computers. After investigation, the issue has been diagnosed as being caused by Adobe Reader's "protected mode" in Adobe Reader 10.

Solution/workaround:

Protected Mode was introduced in Adobe Reader 10. Opening PDF documents in Protected Mode prevents assistive technology such as SaySo from reading the document. In Windows 7 and Vista, Adobe Reader disables Protected Mode when assistive technology such as SaySo is present. However, when using Windows XP, Adobe Reader does not disable Protected Mode automatically when assistive technology is present.

To turn Protected Mode in Adobe Reader 10 OFF:

  1. Go to the 'Edit' menu
  2. Select 'Preferences'
  3. Select 'General'
  4. Toggle the option 'Enable Protected Mode at startup' OFF
  5. Restart Adobe Reader
