How do I set up an Instant Messenger Account for Guide?

Applies to:

  • Dolphin Guide
  • Guide HandsFree

Description:

Setting up an account for Instant Messenger for use within the Guide and Guide Handsfree software

Solution/workaround:

To use the instant messenger feature within Guide you would require a Windows Live ID.
As default any Hotmail or Live email address will be set up as a Windows Live ID, alternatively if you have a email from another provider you can use this as a Windows Live ID by following the following steps.

1. First you would need to visit Windows Live Sign up Web Page
2. On this webpage there is a sub-section called "Sign up today", under this sub-section there are three options:

  • Sign up for a MSN Account
  • Use an email address you already have
  • Sign up for a limited Account.

3. Choose the option "Use an email address you already have" and enter on the link "Get started now".
4. This will now open a webpage with various forms that are required to be filled in.
5. Once they are filled in and the form is completed it will send you an email to confirm that the email address is yours.
6. Once you receive this email open it and follow the link on the email. This will now activate the account.

Now if you open Guide and type the details in on the sign in options on the Instant Messenger menu, you will be able to chat to your friends.
