Humanware Brailliant B Series drivers and support
Note: Ensure the Brailliant B is set to "Humanware" protocol. This is the default setting.
Once installed as per Humanware's guidelines, SuperNova should automatically detect the Braille display through SAM (Synthesizer Access Manager). You can then choose the Brailliant B in SuperNova as the default Braille device. To do this:
- Press LEFT CONTROL + SPACEBAR. The SuperNova Control Panel opens.
- Press ALT + B. The "Braille" menu opens.
- Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "General Preferences" and press ENTER. The "General Preferences" dialog box opens.
- Press LEFT CONTROL + TAB. The "Braille Device" property sheet opens.
- The focus is on the "Select Braille Display" button. Press SPACEBAR. The "Select Braille Display" dialog box opens.
- Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select the Brailliant from the list of detected Braille devices.
- TAB to the "OK" button and press SPACEBAR to confirm your changes and close the dialog box.
If the Brailliant B device is not in the available list of detected Braille displays, you will need to check which COM port has been assigned for the device, in order to tell SAM which COM port to look for the device on. To do this:
- Press WINDOWS KEY + PAUSE. The Windows "System" window opens.
- Use the TAB key to move to the "Device Manager" link and press ENTER. The "Device Manager" dialog box opens.
- Press TAB to move into the list of devices.
- Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Ports (COM and LPT1).
- Press the RIGHT ARROW key to expand this item.
- Use the DOWN ARROW key to select the "Humanware Brailliant BI". The COM port which has been assigned will be stated.
You now need to check this port is turned on in SAM and tell SAM. To do this:
- Press LEFT CONTROL + SPACEBAR. The SuperNova Control Panel opens.
- Press ALT + G. The "General" menu opens.
- Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select "Advanced Options" and press ENTER. The "General Advanced Options" dialog box opens.
- TAB to the "SAM Setup" button and press ENTER. The "SAM Setup" dialog box opens.
- Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select the Humanware Brailliant B. Use the SPACEBAR to make sure the checkbox is selected.
- Tab to the "Configure" button and press SPACEBAR. The "Humanware Brailliant Configuration" dialog box opens.
- Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select the "Manual Configuration" radio button.
- Press TAB to move into the list of available COM ports and review to check the COM port you noted in Device Manager is listed. If it is, select this port then TAB to OK and press ENTER. The Braille display should now be detected.
- If the COM port is not detected then press TAB to move to the "Serial Ports" button and press SPACEBAR. The "Serial Ports" dialog box opens.
- Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select the COM port you noted in Device Manager, and use the SPACEBAR to ensure the checkbox is checked. You can now select this as the port to use in the previous dialog box and the Brailliant B should now be detected.
