Dyslexic Redgrave tells the Guardian how EasyTutor ensures a winning contract
26th Mar, 2007
Britain's quintuple Olympic gold-medal winner Sir Steve Redgrave exclusively spoke to the Guardian this week about his dream - the creation of an electronic format national library of educational texts and learning materials. Backed by Altformat.com and Dolphin, Redgrave is personally passionate about students rights to quickly and easily access materials in alternative formats.
Both Sir Steve and his daughter Sophie are dyslexic and rely on Dolphin's EasyTutor software. Sophie aged 12 uses EasyTutor to hear as well as read her school work, ensuring she makes that all important link between the two. Redgrave explains further.
"It's a big step forward [for Sophie]. You can have something read to you and you take it in but not so much as being able to see the words and hear them. It's a process of forming words as well as hearing them. "
EasyTutor offers different benefits to Sir Steve, whose high profile professional career calls upon him to read contractual information on a regular basis.
"[Technology] is something I use a lot, especially with contracts, where to miss one meaning of one word could turn the contract on its head. In the past I've had to rely on people reading it to me or saying this is alright to sign. It's the same with my daughter. When she's looking up homework and does not totally understand it she'll have the program read it to her."
