RNIB's Access-IT Review Smart Hal - Part Two
1st Jun, 2007
Part Two, Sue finds that the more she uses Smart Hal the better it gets.
"At last!!"
"Something designed for Visually Impaired users by a Visually Impaired user! You really can tell that this is not a sighted person’s answer to a Visually Impaired person’s problem."
"I have now been using Smart Hal on the Windows Smartphone for several weeks. My verdict? I like it!"
"If you read my first impressions, you may have thought I had had some reservations. This was only because I really hadn’t had time to get to know the software and the phone. Now I am using it all the time, I have finally got into the world of mobiles and texting – with a vengeance!"
"Before trying Smart Hal, I was using Talks on a Nokia 6630 Symbion phone, which I found to be not very VI-friendly. Now I have been using the Smart phone as my mobile, I have really enjoyed using Smart Hal. The list of Hot Keys was really easy to absorb as there were familiar terms there from the other Dolphin software I use."
"And probably one of the best things about Smart Hal is the fact that it comes with two software ‘lives’. This means that if you want to change your handset for any reason – as sighted people do all the time – you are not forced to spend a fortune on buying a new software licence!"
"Well, the time is nearing when I have to hand back my phone! I am not looking forward to losing it. I certainly like the Windows platform for mobiles and Smart Hal really makes it easy to use and for me, as a Visually Impaired person who was definitely not mobile friendly, Smart Hal has turned me into a fully paid up member of the mobile phone society!"
