RNIB's Access-IT Review Smart Hal - Part Three

Part Three, Sue falls in love with a Lobster!

22nd Jun, 2007

"I now have my very own Smartphone. I have opted for the Virgin Lobster - yes, a silly name I know! The phone has lots of features, including Internet capabilities, email, voice recorder, Windows Media Player, still and video cameras, voice notes and even a DAB radio! I couldn't wait to get home and try it all out.

The download from the Dolphin website was very easy and we made sure we had the latest version of Microsoft Active Sync installed before we started.

I have now sent all my contacts across to the Lobster from my Outlook contacts list. It was unbelievably easy and I did it all by myself! As you will remember, if you read my earlier articles, when I tried this using the Nokia suite, I had to have sighted help and even then, we lost the lot!

I now have also sent over some music so I can listen to music when I am stuck in a waiting room or when I am waiting for a bus! The next project is to insert the new 2GB micro SD memory card I have treated myself to, so I can try it out with a book downloaded from Audible.com. Then I won't have to carry my slightly chunky book courier around all the time and it will all be on my phone!

I am already making the most of the Voice Notes facility which allows me to quickly make notes during classes and training sessions without having to root around for my recorder! One really good part of this feature is that you get one beep when you start recording and two when you end so you always know where you are.

So, as you can probably tell from my writing style, I have gone from a very cautious mobile user, with little experience, to a more confident, almost enthusiastic user, to a mobile phone nerd, as witnessed by my more energetic and enthusiastic style in this, the final article!!

If you have been like me and very wary of mobiles, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Lobster Smartphone and Smart Hal. The combination will give you a real hi tech experience which will amaze your friends and colleagues and even make them jealous"!
