Software Express is happy to participate in the sixth annual Silver Surfer's Day Campaign

Silver Surfers Day at Software Express

9th May, 2007

According to Help the Aged, 8 out of 10 people over 50 are missing out on access to a whole range of online services such as online shopping, emailing their relatives & friends or reading their favourite newspaper without the need for leaving home, when it is actually possible for them to have access to the vast amount of information about products and services available to them every minute of every day.

Why does this need to be the case? Especially today, when using the Internet is so affordable and easy to use.

So why not to make life more interesting & fun?

To raise computer awareness amongst older people, Software Express is participating in the sixth annual Silver Surfers' Day (SSD) Campaign coordinated by Digital Unite (DU) and Ofcom. Devised in 2002 by DU, Silver Surfers' Day is the biggest annual media literacy campaign aimed at older people. In 2006 the Silver Surfer Campaign reached around 17,000 people at over 500 events organised within the UK, and it is predicted that it will exceed these numbers in 2007.

As an assistive technology provider, Software Express recognises the need to give older people a chance to learn about the Internet, as well as to broaden their computer knowledge. Therefore, we are very happy to be one of the hosts of a Silver Surfers' Day, which will take place on Friday, 25th May 2007 at our head office in Ushaw Moor, Durham.

During the day, Software Express will be running free 30-minute sessions (between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm) for people who are 50+ and would like to learn more about computers. Each session aims to show users:

  • how to browse the Internet
  • how to set up & use an email account
  • how to write & print documents and letters
  • how to store addresses, set appointments in a calendar & much more!

There will be an opportunity to ask questions and receive competent technical support during the day. Additionally, every participant will have a chance to take a copy of 'The Silver Surfers Guide to the Virtual World'.

This event is free of charge, however places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
