Hotkeys and handy tips for web browsing with Guide
Using any screen reader or magnifier to move around websites and read the content can be quite tricky. Websites are often created without consideration for people who cannot see the screen or use a mouse.
When using Dolphin Guide to visit websites there are some handy keyboard 'hotkeys' to help you get better results.
- Move to the next piece of text, link, button, etc. - Right Arrow or TAB
- Move to the previous piece of text, link, button, etc. - Left Arrow or Shift + TAB
- Follow a link on a web page - Enter
- Go back to the address box - Escape
- Jump to the top of the page - Home
- Jump to the bottom of the page - End
- Read the page from your current position (press Ctrl to stop reading) - F8
- Jump to the next link on the page (add Ctrl to jump backwards) - L (Ctrl & L)
- Jump to the next text on the page that is not a link (add Ctrl to jump backwards) - N (Ctrl & N)
- Jump to the next heading on the page (add Ctrl to jump backwards) - H (Ctrl & H)
- Go back to the previous web page you viewed - Backspace
- Go forwards a page - Ctrl + Backspace
- Convert web pages to text (using your Guide colour scheme) press again to revert - Ctrl + T
- Switch between showing/hiding images on the web page - Ctrl + I
- Print the web page (cursor must be on the page itself) - Ctrl + P
- Scroll down by one 'page' - Page Down
- Scroll up by one 'page' - Page Up
You can also type these commands into the address box in Guide's Web Browser (the box where you type website addresses):
- Go back to the web page you were previously looking at - Back
- Go forward (after going back, above) - Forward
- To set the magnification of the web page - Zoom + number 1-99
- Show your list of favourite websites - Favs / Favourites
- Add the current web page to your list of favourite websites - Add Favs / Add Favourites
- Show the list of web pages that have recently been viewed - Hist / History
