Do I need magnification software or a screen reader package?

This purely depends on your level of visual impairment. If you have low vision then Dolphin’s magnifying software packages Lunar or LunarPlus will be the choice for you. However, if your visual impairment is too an extent where magnification is not an option then a speech reader package such as Hal will be the right option.

If you require both magnification and a screen reader then Supernova will be the right choice for you.
